Reminder about CPR Certification Requirement

  • DCEs
  • Field Service Teams
  • DNS/ED
  • Executive Leadership

As a reminder regarding CPR certification. CPR certification is required for all licensed nursing staff in our LIvingCenters. Certification by an American Heart Association instructor is mandated. New hires can be certified at hire or must be certified within 90 days of hire by taking an American Heart Association certified course. If previously certified employees choose to recertify via exam online they may do so by using the link at: http://www.onlineaha.org/. Online recertification requires validation of CPR skills by an American Heart Association instructor within 60 days of online recertification. CNA certification is voluntary but encouraged.

Each center is responsible for maintaining a record of certification and hands-on validation for each employee.  For any employees who have been certified by an organization other than the American Heart Association, all subsequent recertifications must be provided by an American Heart Association instructor. A listing of American Heart Association courses can be found at the following link: : http://www.onlineaha.org/ or by contacting your local hospital.

If you have any questions regarding this process, please contact your Director of Staff Development, your Field Service Clinical Director, your AVP or Melissa Purvis, melissa.purvis@goldenliving.com.

Safety Incentive Program: Apply for Second Quarter 2014 Safety Award

  • Executive Directors
  • Directors of Nursing Services
  • Directors of Clinical Education
  • Safety Committees

SAFETY AND LOSS CONTROL

Starting July 1, 2014, submit your documentation if your LivingCenter has earned the Second Quarter 2014 Safety Incentive Program (SIP) award.

Step 1.  To Qualify for the SIP:

  • Your LivingCenter must not have had an injury that caused the employee to miss work beyond the state workers’ compensation waiting period in the second quarter of 2014 and was paid by workers’ comp for lost wages unless the facility had offered modified duty to the injured employee and either the injured worker turned down the modified duty or the modified duty of 60-90 days had been exhausted. This new criteria will also apply if your facility earned the first quarter Safety Incentive, but within the second quarter, the claim from January, March and April now does not meet the above criteria. (S&LC will help with a review of the claims and notifying you if your facility is eligible and should submit the additional documents to qualify for the SIP, since this is new way of reviewing eligibility!)
  • Your LivingCenter must not have had an injury where the cause was manual lifting of a resident from the floor in the second quarter.
  • Your LivingCenter must have completed the Golden Living Emergency Action Guide. (See May & June 2014 Safety Committee Materials)

Step 2. No later than Friday, April 25:

  1. Send Rita Harris ONE e-mail notifying her that your LivingCenter is eligible for the second quarter 2014 SIP.
  2. Attach to THAT SAME e-mail a copy of your OSHA 300 log for 2014 YTD.
  3. Attach to THAT SAME e-mail a copy of your April, May and June 2014 Safety Committee Minutes (minutes only, no other attachments/handouts).
  4. Attach to that SAME email a copy of your one page Emergency Action Guide.

Step 3. Watch for an announcement in a August 18, 2014 InnerCircle, with the names of the LivingCenters that earned the SIP and the amount to be allocated to each LivingCenter.

Safety Committee minutes are required.

An active Safety Committee is a vital part of the entire safety program, and Safety Committee meetings are where discussions about safety incentive expenditures should be taking place. Please note that submitting your April, May and June 2014 Safety Committee Minutes is now an eligibility requirement of applying for the SIP. When applying for the SIP, please make sure your LivingCenter name and location number are clearly stated in the subject line of your e-mail, on the OSHA log and on the Safety Committee Minutes and the one page Emergency Action Guide. If you are unclear about Safety Committee requirements, please contact your Safety and Loss Control consultant.

Need to submit documentation for second quarter 2014 SIP?

Send ONE e-mail to Rita Harris: rita.harris@goldenliving.com

Note 1: Attach to the e-mail your 2014 OSHA log YTD and your April, May and June 2014 Safety Committee Minutes and your one page Emergency Action Guide.

Note 2: The OSHA 300 logs for 2014 are to be kept in electronic format using the Excel file that is available via the intranet, on the Departments/S&LC/OSHA/OSHA Facilities Log 2014 Template.

New Learning Center to Enhance Employees’ Professional Development

LearningCenterLogo

As a learning organization that is continuously challenging itself to improve and grow, Golden Living is about to launch a new Learning Center that will serve as a state-of-the-art education and professional development platform for our family of companies.

The Benefits of a New Learning Center

At Golden Living, we recognize the value of learning to the success of our employees and our company. The Learning Center will provide a critical foundation for the educational and development opportunities we provide to our employees. This platform will enable you to build on your professional skills and deliver quality patient care and customer service. You’ll find that the Learning Center will enhance your learning experiences with enhanced features and functionality.

The Learning Center will be a centralized online source for all employee education initiatives, competency and skill development, as well as annual compliance training. The Learning Center will be the place to access all of the learning courses that can now be taken through the Golden Living Learning Management System, Golden University, and AseraCare University.

Investing in You

To help us sustain a learning culture, we have established two Golden Living Learning Governance Councils that will provide governance and strategic vision for learning and development as well as oversight of the new Learning Center.

The Learning Governance Strategic Council will comprise key leadership from across the company who will provide the strategic vision for learning and development. Its goal will be to ensure Golden Living is providing the appropriate tools and resources as well as advance learning opportunities within the organization.

The Learning Governance Leadership Council will comprise functional leaders across the company who will be responsible for driving a culture of continuous learning based in our Golden Living values and best practices.

Through this council’s leadership, Golden Living aims to inspire our employees to drive their own professional development while also ensuring them that Golden Living supports their efforts by providing meaningful tools and resources.

When Is the New Learning Center Coming to You?

The Learning Center will be available in July for employees working in select Georgia locations for our Golden LivingCenters, Aegis Therapies and AseraCare. This targeted launch will allow us to gather user feedback across the business lines and make adjustments before the full launch.

Later this summer, we will announce the availability of the platform to the rest of our employees. Human Resources will send more detailed information about accessing the Learning Center when it becomes available to you.

The Golden Living Learning Center will position us for future expansion of our learning and education capabilities.

Students will be required to live near the Fresno training center during this portion of the program and may need to temporarily relocate.

Wells Fargo Now Taking Electronic Signatures for Resident Trust Petty Cash Accounts

Attention: Business Office Consultants / Business Office Managers

We are excited to announce that Wells Fargo has updated their signature card process.   The bank will now accept an electronic version of the signature card instead of originals.  This means you will no longer have to mail the original signature card to corporate.  This will speed up the update process!

Requesting New and Updating Account Signers

Going forward, please contact RFMS directly at 800-632-7367 when you need to update your resident trust petty cash checking account signers.  RFMS will email a signature card with your facility specific information already pre-printed on the form, including any current signers.  All you need to do is:

  • Add any new signers along with their signature in Section IV of the form.
  • If applicable, list any signers that should be deleted.
  • Scan the signature card to treasury@goldenliving.com and we will finish processing the signature card.

The electronic update is only available for Wells Fargo.  Do not forget to update the local resident fund account signers if you do not use Wells Fargo for your local deposits.  For other local banking relationships, we will still need the original signature card to process any changes.

Please click here for the Wells Fargo Signature Card Update Instructions.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Rhonda Fow at (479) 201-4733.
